Summer snowdrops

In the most unlikely of places and the most unlikely of times, I felt it
The moment of touch that I had long forgot
It lit up every bone, even in the sanctuary of my heart
Light shone like it had only moments before, but yet so long ago
Awakening once timid butterflies, to flutter in neon light
Nerve endings danced in delight and filled the vacuum of my brain with energy
Thoughts were whirling around like a mass of burning stars
Yet they always came back to that touch
Not a physical touch, an emotional touch, one I’d long thought lost
I cried, I cried because I had wanted it for so long
